DAY 1
Isla Cañas island, with 1,200 hectares of mangroves and a beach 14 kilometers long, is considered one of the most important nesting sites for sea turtles.
Worldwide there are eleven beaches certified as turtle arrival sites, and Panama has two of them: one is Isla Cañas and the other one is Playa La Marinera, also in Tonosí.
The province has a privileged geographical position has generated important marine and coastal areas filled of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems such as mangroves, beaches and coral reefs that are an incredible scenery of submarine flora and fauna on the coast.
Isla Cañas is surrounded by more than 1,200 hectares of different mangrove species, such as the red, white, mariangolo, button, piñuela mangrove and is also home to various species of sea birds such as pelicans, frigates, herons and mammals such as monkeys, cats mangrove and raccoons. It's the perfect place for the practice of ecological tourism.
